Accelerating the Path to an AML Cure

22-7-2025.webp

We're identifying repurposed FDA-approved medications to identify powerful new therapeutic options for Acute Myeloid Leukemia efficiently.

AN OVERVIEW

What is AML?

Capture.PNG
  • Definition: A rapidly progressing Acute Myeloid Leukemia affecting blood and bone marrow.

  • Core Problem: Overproduction of immature white blood cells that crowd out healthy blood cells.

  • Impact:

    • ↓ Red cells → fatigue, anemia

    • ↓ Platelets → bleeding/bruising

    • Dysfunctional white cells → infections

  • Onset: Sudden and aggressive (requires urgent treatment)

  • Symptoms: Fatigue, fever, infections, easy bruising, bone pain.

  • Risk Factors: Older age, prior chemo/radiation, smoking, chemical exposure (e.g., benzene).

  • Diagnosis: Blood tests + bone marrow biopsy + genetic profiling.

  • Treatment: Chemotherapy, targeted therapy, stem cell transplant.

Our Research: An Efficient Game Plan for a Faster Cure

Virtual Testing

We scanned through many drugs that already exist. We were trying to find which medications can actually stop leukemia cells in their tracks.

Safety First

The best part? These drugs are already FDA-approved and known to be safe. We're skipping unknowns and focusing on getting the right treatment to the right people as fast as possible.

Speedy Delivery

Standard drug research takes way too long, sometimes even 10 to 15 years. By repurposing, we're cutting that down to just 3 or 5 years.

See where we're working in NJ.

We're mapping real data to find faster ways to help people with AML in New Jersey. Check out our research zones! You can see the science coming to life in our own backyard.

We're skipping years of waiting to find cures that work. It’s science at a fast speed, and it’s happening right here.

WANT TO JOIN THE MISSION?_

We're working to find better ways to fight AML. If you're a curious mind, a potential donor, or just someone who is fascinated by science, we'd love to have you on board!
